It is a special day and you are getting a special gift!
What do you hope you will receive for your gift?
Maybe you like games.
Maybe you prefer an active game.
Are video games more to your liking?
Ever want to see the world from above?
Do you like listening to music?
Maybe you would prefer to make music.
Whatever the case, you can never go wrong with cash!
These gifts would be great if the special occasion were your birthday or Christmas. The special day I have in mind is your adoption day: the day you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior and you are adopted into God's family. On this day we not only receive eternal life and the promise of heaven we also receive spiritual gifts. The Bible talks about these special gifts in many different places, including Romans 12:6-8.
We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then prophesy in accordance with your faith; if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; if it is to encourage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is to show mercy, do it cheerfully.
So what is a spiritual gift? It is a supernatural gift given by God to believers when they become a Christian. All believers have a gift (some just don't know yet what it is) and there are no non-believers with a spiritual gift. These special gifts are given to believers by God for the sole purpose of building up the church.
What kind of gifts are given to 6th grade boys? I don't know. I'm not sure if we start off with baby versions of our spiritual gifts while we are baby believers? I know that some of the gifts involve things that are good for all believers to do, such as:
Serving
Leading
Showing mercy
One of the ways that I like to think about spiritual gifts is they are like adding a turbo-charger to the work we do for God.

Over the next few years as you continue through middle school and move into high school, look for clues about the gifts that God has given you. Listen for affirmation from your youth leaders. Make note of doing things that make you feel energized, rather than worn out. God has a plan for you and he has given you exactly what you need to fulfill that plan.
